Pelosi Statement on Open Enrollment for Health Insurance Marketplaces

Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement on open enrollment through the Health Insurance Marketplaces for 2016, which began yesterday:

“Once again, uninsured Americans in California and across the country will be able to visit the Health Insurance Marketplaces and enroll in quality, affordable coverage that fits them and their families.  As we enter the Affordable Care Act’s third Open Enrollment period, we see that this historic law continues to make real the dream of quality, affordable health coverage for millions of American families.

“The Affordable Care Act has empowered students, women, workers and families with the dependable, portable and affordable coverage they need, including nearly 18 million previously uninsured Americans.  In addition to reducing the number of uninsured, this law is strengthening the health care of all Americans – ensuring that people with pre-existing conditions can no longer be denied coverage, that young adults can remain on their parents’ health insurance until age 26, that women no longer have to pay more than men for the same coverage, and ending annual and lifetime limits on coverage.

“Yet Republicans continue to try to tear down this landmark law and the newfound health security it is providing for millions of American families.  After more than 60 votes to repeal or undermine the Affordable Care Act, it’s long past time for Republicans to seek help for their ceaseless obsession with repeal, and recognize that health care must be a right, not a privilege, for all Americans.”
